Are you looking for a deeply personal piece to commemorate a wedding, or honor a loved one, or is there simply some project that you have in mind that I do not have currently available? Commissioning a piece may be the way to get exactly what you need.
The minimum commission price for knives and daggers for culinary use and/or collection is $1500. Swords start at $6000. The average wait time for a commission is 6-12 months.
Here is the process, broken into 7 steps:
Step 1: Brainstorming. Figure out what you want. Pieces on my Past Work page can be helpful for inspiration.
Step 2: First contact. Fill out the contact form below. Include as much detail as you like, including images, if you have them.
Step 3: The initial estimate. I will reply to your contact request with my thoughts on the piece, a ballpark price estimate, and timeline for completion. If it is a good fit, we will proceed to step 4.
Step 4: Designing the piece – $200 deposit. I will send you an invoice for a $200 design deposit, and we will work together to develop the details of the design, including the overall form, materials, and embellishments. I will typically share my preliminary sketches as we hone in on the design. Once the design is final, I will provide a scale drawing, or blueprint, for the piece, and confirm the total price.
Step 5: 50% deposit. Now that we have settled on a design and price, I will send you an invoice for 50% of the total price (minus the $200 you already paid) to hold your spot in the queue.
Step 6: Building the piece for your collection or culinary needs. When the time comes to start work on your commission, I will reach out to let you know and to confirm all the details we discussed. Depending on the complexity of your piece, the build time could be a couple weeks or a few months. I will send periodic updates as the piece comes together.
Step 7: Final payment and delivery. Once the piece is complete, I will photograph it and send you images and an invoice for the remaining 50% of the total price. Once the payment is processed, I will carefully package it up and send it on its way.
